How did the Snuggle Skins hose covers come about, you may (or may not) wonder… You may not realize, but when I first started setting up CPAPs and BiPAPs, humidifiers were not included or covered by insurance. The insurance companies were slowly forced to start covering them as the data clearly showed that for people to use their CPAP or BiPAP, they needed the humidity! The first humidifiers were not even heated. Thankfully, today, a heated humidifier is considered essential and mandatory. Needless to say, as the humidity was added to the airflow, people started to get condensation in their tubing, especially in the winter as bedrooms became colder.
The condensation is not only annoying, but causes fluctuations in the pressure delivered causing a decrease in the effectiveness of the therapy. So, we needed something to fix the problem – Snuggle Skins hose covers. I made the hose covers 9 feet long for 2 reasons – one, the extra fabric provides extra insulation, plus it will fit either a 6’ or 8’ long hose, making it easier for the user to use. It is made of soft fleece, because who wants a cold, scratchy fabric in bed with them? The fleece also prevents the ribs on the tubing from catching on your table or headboard and making that loud noise as you roll over. And, I have heard from many patients that it has made their cat lose interest in chewing or plying with the tubing – added bonus!
